According to this BBC <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sci/tech/newsid_572000/572884.stm">story</a>, the Galileo spacecraft has been able to capture a close-up image for the first time of an erupting volcano on Io. This "lava fountain" rises a couple of kilometers(!) above the surface.
