This Wired <a href="http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,35675,00.html">story</a> describes Microsoft's SkyServer project which will offer images and astronomical data from various sky surveys similar to their TerraServer offering. This along with other already public sky surveys like <a href="http://skyview.gsfc.nasa.gov/skyview.html">SkyView</a> and the <a href="http://stdatu.stsci.edu/">Hubble Data Archive</a> will allow armchair Internet astronomers to make new discoveries. Not to mention what could happen if a distributed processing AI project were unleashed on that all that data...
